During this year’s congress of the Youth of the European People's Party (YEPP) in Berlin, the Junge Union already has organized a demonstration in front of the Belorussian embassy. Together with the former-President of YEPP, Laurent Schouteten, the Swedish Member of Parliament, Christian Holm and the young Belorussian opposition leader Alexander Kuushynau, I called out the names of twenty arbitrarily arrested opponents of the regime – accompanied by the 300 delegates and guests of the eighth Yepp congress.
The Junge Union, which is in close contact with young Belorussian oppositionists tried various ways to show solidarity with the people who fight for freedom and democracy. Among other things, I adopted the sponsorship for the imprisoned Zmitser Dashkevisch and trying in this way to support him and his family.
We will continue to stand by the Belorussian opposition in their struggle against the authoritarian regime of President Alexander Lukashenko and the last dictatorship in Europe.”
